Savanna-Sabula Bridge gets closure

The new structure that connects Savanna, Illinois, and Sabula, Iowa, received its final piece of the puzzle today. Kraemer North America, general contractor, installed the last main bridge piece in Savanna. The existing bridge, classified as structurally deficient and once called "treacherous" in a local news article, lies just 100 feet north of the new bridge.

The Illinois Department of Transportation hired Fehr Graham to provide surveying analytics, which is the first time auto-surveying techniques have been used to build in real time in the Midwest. Next steps in the construction process are to complete the archway and rebar, reinforce the roadway deck and add final touches. The bridge is expected to open this fall.
